INTERBETON’s Agrinio quarry, part of the TITAN Group, earned notable European recognition in the Biodiversity category at the 2025 Sustainable Development Awards (SDA) of Aggregates Europe. The award celebrates the “adoption” of bees project at the Agrinio quarry, carried out in partnership with Bee for Planet. This initiative involves installing 20 beehives and adopting 400,000 bees—natural pollinators crucial for ecosystems and the agri-food supply chain.
At the TITAN Group, protecting biodiversity is a core part of the sustainable development strategy. It aims to leave a positive impact in our operational areas and to maintain a safe, sustainable, and high-quality environment for future generations.
The initiative seeks to improve local biodiversity, facilitate scientific monitoring, support the natural recovery of the quarry ecosystem, and demonstrate the coexistence of quarrying activities with the environment. This is the first project of its kind at a TITAN Group quarry and is also being carried out at the Kamari quarry. It aligns fully with the European Union’s 2030 nature restoration regulation, reflecting INTERBETON and the TITAN Group’s dedication to undertaking impactful actions with clear environmental benefits.
Biodiversity conservation is a core element of the TITAN Group’s sustainable development strategy, focused on making a positive impact in their operational areas and providing a safe, sustainable, and high-quality environment for future generations. During the awards ceremony in Brussels, Constantine Papakonstantinou, the Aggregates Operations Director of TITAN Group, and Manos Kontekakis, INTERBETON’s Technical Support Manager for Quarry Products, were present.
