Sustainability in Action: People, Nature & Community

Ensuring Wellbeing, Equity & Biodiversity

At INTERBETON, we view sustainability as a shared responsibility that begins with protecting people, preserving ecosystems, and supporting local communities. Guided by TITAN Group’s values, we foster a strong safety culture, implement responsible environmental practices, restore biodiversity, manage water resources, and engage in meaningful community partnerships. Through this integrated approach, we aim to create lasting, positive impact—both on and beyond the construction site.

Environment: Reducing Our Footprint

At INTERBETON, we fully align with TITAN Group’s Environmental Policy and are committed to sustainable development and climate action. We assess the environmental impact of our operations, restore quarry sites, protect biodiversity, manage water responsibly, and reduce waste. By integrating innovation and strict compliance with environmental regulations, we foster a culture of responsibility and strive for continuous improvement through long-term, proactive stewardship.

Environmental Management: Action Through Responsibility

At INTERBETON, we are committed to continuously improving our environmental footprint through systematic performance monitoring and clear, measurable goals. Our environmental management practices focus on reducing air emissions, protecting biodiversity, restoring quarry sites, and managing water use through recycling and conservation.

We work closely with environmental experts and local stakeholders to better understand community needs and contribute positively to the ecosystems where we operate. Practical actions include enclosing raw material conveyors, minimizing emissions and leaks, installing natural barriers around storage areas, taking action to reduce dust from our operations, and paving internal routes where feasible. We also ensure proper maintenance and optimal operation of our equipment, while enforcing strict controls on material transport within and beyond our sites. These initiatives reflect our commitment to responsible, forward-thinking environmental stewardship.

Biodiversity: Restoring Nature, Sustaining the Future

Protecting biodiversity and managing land sustainably are core pillars of INTERBETON’s environmental strategy. In line with TITAN Group’s commitment and the guidelines of the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA), we implement best practices for quarry rehabilitation and biodiversity management, especially in ecologically sensitive areas.

All INTERBETON quarries operate under approved Environmental Impact Assessments and adhere to strict environmental conditions. In collaboration with expert organizations, we conduct biodiversity risk assessments, using the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT), and have completed studies in Rethymno, Leros, and Agrinio. New biodiversity plans are underway for our Drymos and Thisvi sites by 2026. TITAN supports these efforts with two nurseries in Elefsina and Drepano, which supply thousands of saplings annually for restoration. Notably, over 2 million trees have been planted across Greece since 1971, including donations to schools, hospitals, and communities. Through these actions, INTERBETON contributes to local well-being and strives for a positive environmental impact wherever possible.

Water Management: Optimizing Every Drop

Effective water management is a key aspect of INTERBETON’s environmental performance. Since 2010, we have implemented an Integrated Water Management System (IWMS) across all operations to monitor and optimize water use. This includes consistent maintenance practices, data archiving, and alignment with international cement and concrete industry guidelines.

In 2020, TITAN Group completed a comprehensive water risk assessment using tools such as the WRI Aqueduct and WWF’s Water Risk Filter, covering all aggregate quarries, industrial mineral sites, and ready-mix concrete units. These findings guide the development of targeted water management plans, especially for facilities located in high-risk areas, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable water use and responsible environmental stewardship.

Circular Economy: Closing the Loop

At INTERBETON, we actively support the circular economy by reducing waste, reusing materials, and recovering resources across our operations. We incorporate recycled aggregates into our concrete mixes, promote the reuse of returned concrete, and follow strict procedures for managing construction by-products.

By designing smarter, more efficient concrete solutions, we help minimize environmental impact and conserve natural resources—building a more sustainable future, one cycle at a time.

Supporting Local Communities: Growing Together

At INTERBETON, we are committed to the well-being of the communities we serve. We engage with local stakeholders to support initiatives in education, environmental awareness, and urban greening, like our annual “Anthestiria” events and school tree plantings. We also host engineering students at our sites, bridging theory and real-world practice. These efforts reflect our role as a responsible, collaborative partner in building stronger, more sustainable communities.

Health & Safety: A Shared Commitment

At INTERBETON, health and safety are fundamental to everything we do. We are dedicated to creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, and respectful working environment for our employees, contractors, and partners. Our goal is simple but critical: zero accidents, zero harm. To achieve this, we invest in continuous training, implement rigorous safety standards, and foster a proactive safety culture where everyone takes responsibility for themselves and for one another. From our production sites to our logistics operations, every process is designed with safety in mind. For us, protecting people is a core value that defines the way we work.
